Helping you understand and overcome social anxiety and shyness

My Experiences on Video

I created this video to help encourage more people to come along to Social Anxiety West in Bristol, but I thought I would share it here also. I talk about what social anxiety was like for me, including feeling unable to speak and physical symptoms, and how I found a self-help group helpful.

    Hay,
iv just come across your website iv found it very helpful, iv been with my boyfreind for about a year and a half now and im so happy but when in social situation with them all i feel like i have to shadow him a bit, if he goes out the room i panic and dont know what to say and when i do say something i feel like an idiot. i am always paranoid they all think im an idiot or stupid. im so self conscious. everything you said i agree liek you said about the shop keeper sying “good day” i dont say anything or make a stupid mumble and walk away quickly. i got so upset once because my freinds mum told me she was offended because i diddent talk much to her i felt so bad now i feel like im rude to everyone.
thank you for your website im glad i came across it, i really thought it was just me or im just a really quiet person.

    Hi Esta,

I’m glad my website reached you and helped you not feel so alone. Unfortunately, there are lots of people feeling in a way very similar to what you describe. It does help to know there are others though, if nothing else, just because we can know that someone somewhere understands and we can feel like our struggling in social situations is not so abnormal after all. It is definitely something that can be turned around and many do turn it around. I hope you become one of them.

    All the best,

    Nick
