From having fully overcome social phobia myself and being involved in co-ordinating and facilitating social anxiety support groups since 2002, I have learnt that nearly everyone who experiences severe social anxiety can find confidence around other people. How social anxiety works is fairly simple and with persistence you can gain the confidence you want around other people. When we are socially anxious, we can feel very self-conscious and nervous in the presence of other people. These feelings can become so strong that they take control of our life and leave us feeling extremely lonely, isolated and unhappy.
When social anxiety becomes this challenging for people it is often referred to as social anxiety disorder, social phobia or extreme shyness. The solutions are often paradoxical and counter-intuitive and therefore even the most intelligent people can struggle to break free of the negative vicious cycles. The good news it that, however severe it is, there are answer and you can learn how to find confidence to enjoy life again - or even for the first time.
